Tips

Posted by James  Published in Articles

How many of these did YOU know about?

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a
knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
===========
Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them
neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
=========
For icy door steps in freezing temperatures:
get warm water and p ut
Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won’t
refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)

=========

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for
a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The
wax will fall out.

=========

Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped
in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
=========
Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt
BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.
=========
Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of
scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw
away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would
be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely!
In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get ’sharpened” this way!
=========
Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen
peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works
every time! (Now, where to put the body?) LOL
=========
Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal
for inside windows.
This way you can tell which side has the streaks.
Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don’t wash windows
on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.
=========
Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely
light scent in each room when the light is turned on.
=========
Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.
=========
Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3
hours prior to burning.
=========
To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag an d add the
flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt
and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

=========
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top.

=========
Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won’t be any stains.
=========
Wrap celery in aluminum foil
when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
=========
When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the
corn’s natural sweetness

=========
Cure for headaches: Take a li me, cut it in half, and rub it on your
forehead. The throbbing will go away.

=========
To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area
and you will experience instant relief.

=========

Ants, ants, ants everywhere …
Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.
=========

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors.
It does a good job and better still,
leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
=========
When you get a splinter,
reach for the scotch tape before resorting to
tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and
then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
=========
Now look wha t you can do with Alka Seltzer…….. Clean a toilet.
Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush.
The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China .
=========
Clean a vase.
To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water
and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
=========
Polish jewelry.
Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the
jewelry for two minutes.
=========
Clean a thermos bottle.
Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak
for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
=========
Unclog a drain.
Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the
drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes,
and then run the hot water.
=========

P.S. Sure makes you wonder about ingesting Alka Seltzer, doesn’t it?

NEW Centercode Beta Test! – Thanks Patti!

Posted by James  Published in Articles
Centercode is pleased to announce the first public beta test being offered exclusively
to our OnlineBeta Community members. While the number of participants in a test is
usually limited, this project allows you to be engaged in beta testing and get a first
look at a new software application.

Dyyno is an exciting new application that allows you to share your screen with others.
Popular with video game enthusiasts, you simply run the software and broadcast what you
are doing. With this application you can help a buddy navigate a tough map, show off
some new photos, or help Grandma learn to use Internet Explorer. With Dyyno you have
an easy and fast way to show things over the Internet without exposing your system
to security risks.

Your involvement in this beta test will not only help Dyyno maximize the quality and
usability of their product; it gives you a chance to show Centercode your skills as
a beta tester. We will be monitoring this project to identify the participants we
believe would be valuable contributors in future projects. In addition, the top
performers on this test will be eligible to receive one of the two $50 gift
certificates being awarded each week of this test. So get engaged and have some fun,
and you could end up with some extra cash to spend!

Please click the link below to log into your OnlineBeta account and begin testing!
We hope you enjoy participating in this exciting project and look forward to
offering more opportunities like it in the near future.

Veteran’s Day

Posted by James  Published in Articles
I know this information is a bit long and I don’t know how many veterans/active duty/guard/
reserve you actually have subscribed to your news letter, but I’m sure they probably know
someone who is.  Here is some information about businesses saying thank you for their
service.
There are three restaurants having free meals for veterans/active duty on different days around
the Veteran’s Day holiday.  The meal is only free for the veteran/active duty member so any
accompanying folk would have to pay for their meal unless of course, they are also a veteran/
active duty member.  It does include the Guard and Reserves and there is a list below of what
they will accept as proof of service.  Restaurant info below.
Note:  if one of the restaurants is near you but is not listed as participating, call your local
restaurant and ask them why not.  You may find out that they are participating but didn’t
get on the list.  This happened with Applebee’s.  Our local restaurant wasn’t listed and my
husband called them up, we’re both military retirees, and found out they were participating.
Lowe’s and Home Depot are also giving a 10% discounts (up to a certain limit–see below)
during certain dates.  Lowe’s is from 6-11 November and Home Depot is from 6-12
November.  Home Depot has done this for at least the past 6 years (that I’m aware of) and
I have found that seem to do it every veteran type holiday–Memorial Day, 4th of July,
Veteran’s day.  It is best to check with your local store.
Something that isn’t listed but I was told my an email buddy is that AutoZone gives veterans/
active duty/Guard/Reserve a 10% discount all year round.  I don’t know if this is their policy
all across the country but asking them never hurts. In fact, for all the veterans/active duty/
guard/reserve that you can get this info to, it isn’t a bad idea to ask the businesses you
frequent if they do give a discount.  I’ve gotten yes’s and as many times as no’s.
Anyway, I thought I’d pass this along.
And to all fellow veterans–THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICES!!
Yvonne from Arizona
USAF, Retired

As Veterans Day approaches, the following corporations have issued news releases and/or posted on the Internet the
following
special recognition benefits for veterans.

Veterans Day deals:

Golden Corral: The 2008 Military Appreciation Monday dinner will be held on Monday, November
17, 2008 from 5 pm to 9 pm in all Golden Corral Restaurants. The free “thank you” dinner is
available to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. If you are a veteran,
retired, currently serving, in the National Guard or Reserves, you are invited to participate in
Golden Corral’s Military Appreciation Monday dinner.

Lowes: Lowe’s Companies, Inc. will offer all active, reserve, honorably discharged, retired military
personnel and their immediate family members a 10 percent discount on in-store U.S. purchases
made during the Veterans Day holiday. The discount is available Nov. 6 – Nov. 11. The discount
is available on in-stock and special order purchases up to $5,000. To qualify, individuals must
present a valid military ID or other proof of service. Excluded from the discount are sales via
Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards.

Home Depot: The Home Depot(R) is offering all active duty personnel, reservists, retired
military, veterans and their families a 10 percent discount off their purchases in honor of
Veteran’s Day. The offer is valid on purchases of up to $2,000 for a maximum of $200
between November 6 and November 12, 2008, at The Home Depot stores, The Home Depot
Design Center locations, Yardbirds and EXPO Design Center(R) locations.

Applebee’s: Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants invite all active duty and veterans to one of
164 participating restaurants nationwide to pull up a chair for a delicious meal and heartfelt
thanks this Veterans Day. With gratitude for their service and sacrifice, active duty and veterans
will eat free at participating locations on Veterans Day (November 11, 2008) during regular
business hours.

Veterans and active duty with proof of United States military service will be able to go to one
of the participating Applebee’s and select one complimentary entrée from a selection of delicious
favorites: a savory House Sirloin, hearty Riblet Basket, zesty Fiesta Lime Chicken®, a juicy
Quesadilla Burger or fresh Oriental Chicken Salad. All the traditional sides are included.

“It’s an honor to host an event that helps the neighborhood come together and say thanks
