I think this is a very important subject to bring up…if a person really wants to get a cat or dog they should go to a shelter and save the life of an animal there. I adopted my dog Jack when he was 6 months old from a shelter near South Bend, Indiana and he is now 3 and the happiest and most grateful dog on this earth. He gives us more love than anyone could ask for! Please think about adopting from a shelter before you get one of those “cute puppies or kitties in the window” at your local mall.

To Chris and Princess…

Thank you for your wonderful comments! You are right, dogs give us the most unconditional love there is. It’s true we, as people, cannot give that most precious type of love ourselves. Ever had a dog hold a grudge? Never! Ever had a dog tell you that you are too fat to love, or too skinny? Get mad at a dog for pooing on the floor, and 5 minutes later they want to be petted. Has a dog or cat ever flushed the toilet while you are taking a shower? Never! There are no ‘bad’ dogs…just bad pet parents.

Thank you both for your wisdom and caring, and especially for opening your hearts to give an animal a forever home!

I was reading an article PETA had about what is happening in some animal shelters and pounds and was horrified.Did you know that labratories are getting dogs and cats from them and using them in experiments?I believe it was in a peta newsletter i got and was so sad and angry. These poor animals not only are losing their families but then for experiments. The only pets i’ll ever get are from pounds, shelters or other rescue places. Both of r cats r rescues and they’re my babies. My fiance and i rescued both and they love us unconditionally.

We have dogs that come to Shriner’s Hospital that are well trained to play with the patients. Last week we had two Very Large Great Danes and the kids had a fit over them. I had never seen some of the kids smile before the doggies came:D :D :D

Your message is so true! I rescued my dog from the Batavia shelter in New York State. He was a year old and so matted they had to shave him. He was supposed to be put down but they kept him at the shelter 3 months. He is a pure bred blue chow. He is one of the best things that happened to me :) I live in the heart of Menonite country and they treat animals terrible. There are several puppy mills here owned by them and the towns are trying to pass laws to outlaw them…

Any thing you can do to end this atrocity against animals will be a step forward. To LdyHades, if you can vote in favor of banning puppy mills in your town, you will do a great justice towards these mistreated animals. And Wayne, you have seen first hand what happiness animals can bring to sick children. They give so much and ask for so little. Just a little love and human contact, and a decent meal and place to live, makes their world a much happier place. It is the same as the basic human comforts most of us have. And Kr8zyGirl, I hear you…it is SO sad. And, these rescue animals are so grateful to have a home where thay are loved, and can love you back.

Keep up the good work everyone. And, please help spread the word!

wonderful idea!! we went 11 years ago to a breeder, local. There were probably 25 dogs tied outside-with a 6ft.chain for each…in dirt, a crappy dog house or makeshift one. In the sun boiling down on them all. I didnt have the heart to leave 1 certain dog , Tardee. She was a return to the breeder after 1 yr. The family that bought her had her fixed, & as the breeder told us, “you can have her,,,shes no use to me anymore- they fixed her & then brought her back because it didnt work out”.
well, thank God we tookher, she is still with us today..arthiritis and all. Shes such aloving girl & weare so happy to have her…if we hadn’t gotten her, God only knows what would have happened to her!!

I rescued a cockert spaniel 3 years ago. He spent the 1st yr. of his life in a crate, cramped, no water, no food, not potty trained and had no socializtion skills. It took a good year to bnegin his rehabilitation. I think it is something everyone should do.
